The 30th issue of PAHAL showcases how UP TSU continues to support the Government of Uttar Pradesh in strengthening public health systems through practical innovations, digital transformation and sustained capacity building. Covering the period from April to June 2026, this issue presents a diverse range of initiatives that have enhanced service delivery, strengthened health system governance and improved access to quality healthcare across the State.

The newsletter highlights the rollout of Ferric Carboxymaltose (FCM) for the management of maternal anaemia, initiatives to strengthen antenatal and newborn care, and innovative approaches that have improved referral coordination, emergency preparedness and clinical mentoring. It also features district- led experiences demonstrating how simple, context-specific solutions and community participation can contribute to safer pregnancies, healthier newborns and stronger primary healthcare services.

A prominent theme is the growing use of digital solutions to improve health system performance. From digitising human resource processes through eHRMS and strengthening medical equipment management with eUpkaran, to improving drug redistribution using the Inter-Warehouse Transfer Tool, these initiatives illustrate how technology is enabling greater efficiency, transparency and accountability. The issue also captures progress in family planning, tuberculosis, nutrition and urban health through innovative learning platforms, workforce development and supportive supervision.

Collectively, the stories featured in this edition demonstrate how strong partnerships, responsive governance and locally driven innovations are helping build a more resilient and equitable public health system in Uttar Pradesh. They reaffirm UP TSU’s commitment to supporting the Government of Uttar Pradesh in translating policy into measurable improvements in healthcare delivery and health outcomes.

Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit

The Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit (UP TSU) supports the Government of Uttar Pradesh to improve reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition outcomes across all 75 districts and 820 blocks. Led by IGPH, University of Manitoba, in partnership with IHAT, the programme applies a Program Science approach to strengthen community, facility and health-system platforms, reduce inequities, and improve effective coverage at scale.
