About IHAT:

India Health Action Trust (IHAT) works towards reducing inequities by developing comprehensive and sustainable programs to improve population health. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals, IHAT works closely with the Government of India and state governments to achieve public health goals. IHAT’s work focuses on prevention and control of HIV and Tuberculosis, in achieving significant improvements in Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, improved Nutrition among mothers and children, and strengthening health systems. IHAT has also set up Technical Support Units (TSU) and Innovation Hub to provide techno-managerial assistance to coordinate with the Governments, Non-Government Agencies, Academic Institutions and Communities.

About Program:

The Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit (UPTSU) provides integrated Technical Assistance (TA) to the government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP), which focuses on accelerating progress in reproductive, maternal, new-born and child health, and nutrition (RMNCHN). UPTSU works closely with the GoUP at the state, district and local levels to optimize RMNCHN programs and services. The technical assistance provided by UPTSU is integrated within the GoUP’s health system response for scale-up and sustainability. UPTSU focuses on interventions to improve outcomes in Family Planning, Maternal and New-born Health, and Nutrition, along with Routine Immunization, Digital Health, and other initiatives.

Job Summary :

The CHO Mentor will provide supportive supervision, mentoring, on-site coaching, and quality improvement support to strengthen PPFP counselling, method uptake, referral, follow-up, and documentation at AAM. The role focuses on improving access to PPFP services during the postpartum and post-abortion period through high-quality counselling and referral linkage.

Key deliverables

  • Improve knowledge and skills of CHOs, ANM and frontline workers on PPFP counselling and service delivery.
  • Strengthen integration of PPFP into antenatal, delivery, postnatal, immunization, and child health contacts.
  • Improve referral, follow-up, and method continuation after facility-based or community-based counseling.
  • Support data recording, reporting, and review for PPFP indicators.
Key Responsibilities:
  • S/He will conduct regular mentoring visits to AAMs in high-priority blocks.
  • S/He provides supportive supervision to CHOs and FLWs on PPFP service delivery.
  • S/He demonstrates and coaches PPFP counseling: birth spacing, method choice, eligibility screening, and informed decision-making per national guidelines.
  • S/He ensures postpartum clients are linked to appropriate contraceptive methods.
  • S/He facilitates referrals to PHC/CHC/district facilities when clinical assessment is required.
  • S/He guides CHOs on counseling for immediate postpartum, early postpartum, and post-abortion family planning options.
  • S/He reviews registers, tracking sheets, and reporting formats for completeness and accuracy.
  • S/He identifies documentation gaps and follows up on corrections.
  • S/He identifies service delivery gaps, develops corrective action plans with facilities, and tracks implementation.
  • S/He facilitates AAA+C meetings to strengthen client tracking and continuity of care.
  • S/He supports CHOs and FLWs in community awareness and demand-generation activities for postpartum contraception and birth spacing.
  • S/He ensures PPFP counseling is offered during ANC, delivery/discharge, PNC, and child immunization contacts during OPD and ANC day at AAM.
  • S/He reinforces counseling on family planning methods as per approved program guidance and service availability.
  • S/He tracks follow-up of women counseled for PPFP and reviews missed opportunities for counseling/service delivery.
Work Experience:
  • 4 – 5 years’ experience of working with government health systems. Candidates having prior knowledge or experience of health systems and RMNCH (Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health) and digital program may be given priority.
  • Training in CHO mentoring, counseling, or family planning will be desirable.
Education:
  • The candidate must hold a B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc. in Allied Health or equivalent B.Sc. cadre as per state recruitment norms.
Key Competencies:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of PPFP and basic family planning methods.
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and communicate effectively with frontline workers.
  • Good analytical and report-writing skills.
  • Understanding of public health reporting and supportive supervision.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, data tools, and digital platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and travel within the assigned city.
