About IHAT:

India Health Action Trust was instituted in 2003 as a Charitable Trust with a vision to meaningfully impact the lives of vulnerable and marginalised people by addressing health and social inequities. The Trust is working towards reducing inequities by developing comprehensive and sustainable programmes to improve population health. Since its inception, IHAT has working closely with the Government of India and state governments, including Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Bihar to achieve public health goals. Our work is focused in areas of prevention and control of HIV and Tuberculosis, in achieving significant improvements in Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, improved Nutrition among mothers and children, and strengthening health systems. We use program science to optimise and scale public health programs while partnering with the governments and communities.

Job Summary :

Under the guidance of the District Community Coordinator, Consultant Advisors and District Program Manager (Shahdol), the Block Community Coordinator shall be responsible for ensuring the community intervention is implemented as per agreed project plan for designated IHAT projects in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh. S/he would be primarily responsible for implementing and overseeing community health programs within designated block(s), engaging with local leaders and community members to promote health awareness, facilitate access to healthcare services, and monitor project activities at the grassroots level, often coordinating with government agencies and other stakeholders to achieve health goals within the community. S/He will be responsible for working with the block government officials to identify and close critical gaps in availability, quality and utilization of MNCH and other services of concern.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Community Mobilization
  • Conduct community needs assessments to identify health concerns and priorities.
  • Organize awareness campaigns and health education sessions on critical health issues like MNCH, nutrition, CPHC, TB and NCD disease prevention.
  • Engage with local leaders, community groups, and influential individuals to promote program participation.
  1. Program Implementation
  • Facilitate delivery of health services within the block, including screening camps, community engagement activities, engagement with front line health care workers, beneficiaries, community platforms representatives for convergence and effective implementation.
  • Supervise outreach activities at the village/gram panchayat level for relevant health interventions.
  • Contextualize and implement program in response to local needs; Propose/Develop innovative ideas/models etc. that can improve MNCH, TB, CPHC and NCD services and community level outcomes.
  • Monitor program activities and ensure adherence to project goals and timelines. 
  1. Stakeholder Coordination
  • Coordinate with Block & Sector level Government Officials and other key stakeholders to identify issues/challenges faced by tribal communities and engage in problem solving along tribal community elected leaders and key opinion leaders.
  • Establish strong partnerships with Community based organization (CBOs) and Self Help Group (SHG) to identify synergies for improving community involvement in service utilization of MNCH, comprehensive primary care, Tuberculosis and other communicable & non-communicable diseases including cancers, strengthening health system mechanisms, community-facility interlinkages etc. in the block as per the program needs.
  • Attend various Government review meetings at Block and sector levels to ensure that program achievements and challenges are adequately highlighted. 
  1. Data Management & Reporting
  • Collect and maintain accurate data on program activities, health indicators, and beneficiary details.
  • Prepare regular reports for the program manager, highlighting achievements, challenges, and necessary adjustments.
  1. Capacity Building
  • Conduct training sessions for community health workers to enhance their knowledge and skills on health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Empower community leaders to advocate for health issues within their village.
  1. Additional Responsibilities:
  •   Any other work assigned by the line manager.
Work Experience:
  • Minimum 2-3 years of proven experience at the Block level managing MNCH/ TB/ CPHC/ NCD Health programs in Tribal areas.
  • Experience working with Tribal areas and with Tribal population would be considered as essential.
  • Women candidates from tribal community will be added advantage.
Education:
  • Essential education qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field.
Key Competencies:

Technical Competencies:

  • Technical knowledge and experience in Tribal Health; experience in maternal, newborn and child health programs, TB/ NCD/CPHC programs would be strong asset.
  • Experience in working with government/development agency in community based intervention.
  • Good understanding of health care systems with knowledge of Madhya Pradesh context at community level.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in written and spoken Hindi and Knowledge of local Tribal languages.

Community Expertise:

  • Expertise in working closely with community on opportunities and programs in Tribal areas of central India.
  • Develop capacity building modules and innovative training materials / case studies / tools and other teaching aids for training of various categories of stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with individuals from different backgrounds and Tribal communities.
  • Comfort with taking up new and complex problems, applying everyday learning and insights, and solving through collaboration.
  • Empathy- Working for people and with people.
  • Critical thinking- Asking the right questions.
