About IHAT:

India Health Action Trust was instituted in 2003 as a Charitable Trust with a vision to meaningfully impact the lives of vulnerable and marginalised people by addressing health and social inequities. The Trust is working towards reducing inequities by developing comprehensive and sustainable programmes to improve population health. Since its inception, IHAT has working closely with the Government of India and state governments, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Bihar to achieve public health goals. Our work is focused in areas of prevention and control of HIV and Tuberculosis, in achieving significant improvements in Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, improved Nutrition among mothers and children, and strengthening health systems. We use program science to optimise and scale public health programs while partnering with the governments and communities.

About Program:

The Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit (UPTSU) provides integrated Technical Assistance (TA) to the government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP), which focuses on accelerating progress in reproductive, maternal, new-born and child health, and nutrition (RMNCHN). UPTSU works closely with the GoUP at the state, district and local levels to optimize RMNCHN programs and services. The technical assistance provided by UPTSU is integrated within the GoUP’s health system response for scale-up and sustainability. UPTSU focuses on interventions to improve outcomes in Family Planning, Maternal and New-born Health, and Nutrition, along with Routine Immunization, Digital Health, and other initiatives.

Job Summary :

The Data Science Centre at KGMU serves as a multidisciplinary hub dedicated to transforming  health data into actionable insights to improve patient outcomes, advance data-driven research, and assist policy decisions at the institutional and state level.

This role is central to the Data Science Centre’s mission of revolutionizing healthcare delivery through responsible, ethical, and high-impact AI innovations. The role holder will lead the development of cutting-edge AI solutions to enhance data ingestion, curation, analytics, and decision-making processes within the centre.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop automated data curation and analytical techniques using advanced AI technologies to process large-scale structured and unstructured datasets from KGMU departments and external sources.
  • Design, train, and deploy machine learning and deep learning models (e.g., predictive analytics, early warning systems, recommendation systems, NLP such as Optical charater recognition tehnique for clinical notes) to extract actionable insights from healthcare data.
  • Develop frameworks to monitor model performance and ensure continuous learning and improvement.
  • Create generative AI solutions to automate medical report generation and synthesize datasets for research and predictive modeling.
  • Implement large language models (LLMs) for applications such as clinical note summarization and AI-powered Q&A chatbots.
  • Build capacity of internal teams and partners in understanding and applying advanced analytics.
  • Knowledge dissemination responsibilities include effectively communicating complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences by developing low code modules, sharing insights through presentations, reports, paper publications, and visualizations, and mentoring junior team members.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

 

Work Experience:
  • At least 5 years of experience in the IT sector, including a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in advanced machine learning, deep learning, and AI techniques
  • Leadership experience in managing data science teams or projects, and/or working with data science teams in government organizations, would be preferable
  • Experience in healthcare data projects is desirable
Education:
  • Tech / M.Tech / MCA / MSC relevant to digital/information technologies, ComputerScience/Data Science/Computer Applications, or its equivalent (Mandatory)
  • A PhD degree related to computer science /digital/information technologies/Data Science are highly preferred
Key Competencies:
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL and Excel is mandatory.
  • Expertise in machine learning and deep learning techniques specifically in image processing, predictive modeling, natural language processing, and data mining (Mandatory)
  • Knowledgeable in version control, continuous delivery, unit testing, documentation, and release management.
  • Knowledgeable in cloud-based platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure) and GPU acceleration for scalable model development.
  • Familiarity with ethical AI practices and regulatory compliance in healthcare (HIPAA, GDPR) to ensure responsible AI deployment.
