About IHAT:

India Health Action Trust was instituted in 2003 as a Charitable Trust with a vision to meaningfully impact the lives of vulnerable and marginalised people by addressing health and social inequities. The Trust is working towards reducing inequities by developing comprehensive and sustainable programmes to improve population health. Since its inception, IHAT has working closely with the Government of India and state governments, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Bihar to achieve public health goals. Our work is focused in areas of prevention and control of HIV and Tuberculosis, in achieving significant improvements in Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, improved Nutrition among mothers and children, and strengthening health systems. We use program science to optimise and scale public health programs while partnering with the governments and communities.

About Program:

The Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit (UPTSU) provides integrated Technical Assistance (TA) to the government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP), which focuses on accelerating progress in reproductive, maternal, new-born and child health, and nutrition (RMNCHN). UPTSU works closely with the GoUP at the state, district and local levels to optimize RMNCHN programs and services. The technical assistance provided by UPTSU is integrated within the GoUP’s health system response for scale-up and sustainability. UPTSU focuses on interventions to improve outcomes in Family Planning, Maternal and New-born Health, and Nutrition, along with Routine Immunization, Digital Health, and other initiatives.

Job Summary :

Deputy Team Lead – VPD Surveillance & Immunization will closely work with officials of Department of Health and Family Welfare to achieve the immunization outcomes in Uttar Pradesh. S/he shall provide techno-strategic support to the state in routine immunization, Measles Elimination and Rubella control, and new vaccine introduction. S/he shall support in designing, implementing and monitoring strategies for capacity building and continuous mentoring to strengthen implementation of Unified Disease Surveillance Platform and improve data-driven decision-making, governance, and accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical:

  • S/he shall provide technical guidance and build capacity of the GoUP personnel to sustain polio-free status as per the polio eradication and end game strategic plan.
  • S/he shall facilitate activities to strengthen routine immunization, AFP surveillance, measles elimination and rubella control and surveillance of other vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs);
  • S/he shall coordinate with and provide technical assistance for strengthening of vaccine preventable disease surveillance, and related outbreak response in coordination with the State EPI Unit & State Surveillance Unit;
  • S/he shall liaise and coordinate with partner agencies, non-governmental organizations, professional bodies for strengthening of above-mentioned activities;
  • Conduct regular analysis and interpretation of epidemiological, surveillance and immunization data to support appropriate follow up actions;

Program Management:

  • Develop/maintain project workplans and trackers
  • Share fortnightly updates in regard to progress made against action items as decided in all internal and external meetings
  • Develop and improve necessary analysis and presentations for all internal and external meetings, and maintain minutes of meetings
  • Maintain project schedules, manage and analyze progress using excel and other similar tools
  • Liaisoning with internal UP-TSU teams to support effective collaboration in implementation and knowledge management of ongoing project activities.

Documentation:

  • Prepare concept notes, proposals and reports for consideration as required
  • Prepare high-quality presentations for internal and external demonstrations as directed
  • Maintain comprehensive repository of all relevant documents, reports, presentations and photographs

Strategic Planning:

  • Conduct field visits to gauge program implementation, identify gaps in the current implementation of initiatives and develop strategies based on proven global best practices to address the identified gaps.

Miscellaneous

  • Any other work assigned by the line manager or organization from time to time
Work Experience:
  • Essential experience: 5 years of relevant experience at the district, division, and/or state level in working with immunization/surveillance or related program.
  • Preferred experience: Experience working with immunization/surveillance programs in Uttar Pradesh
Education:
  • Required Qualification:
    • MBBS or BDS/BAMS/BHMS with a Masters in Public Health/MHA/MBA
  • Preferred Qualification:
    • MD Community Medicine/ PhD in public health or a related field.
